Why are we so bad with our money? We want more of it, yet struggle to keep our hands around what we have. And the concept of building wealth seems like that's only for the elites. We're stuck.
How did we get here?
I truly believe this is due to a failure in financial literacy that starts inside the home (parents) and continues into lack of education through adulthood. In short: Nobody taught us how!
Why are we so bad at managing our money and building it up?
Okay now this is where it gets interesting, because we can change this part:
In my opinion, there are only two components to being a Jedi with our money and they are the two reasons we perpetually fail.
Reason #1 - Mindset. None of us were taught how to form a healthy understanding around money. Understand the emotional side of it... the strategic side of it. Consider this... When you were growing up, did you ever have a class just on psychology around money? Of course not. Yet if it existed, and it was enjoyable and made sense, it would fundamentally change your behavior around money permanently. That's what I'm here for.
Reason #2 - Skills and tools. The second and last major reason is we were not taught the skillset on how to control our money effectively, nor were we shown the proper tools to use (at the right time) to make it easy to manage.
Now, that last part really bothers me because there are a plethora of tools out there (apps) that are constantly being pumped at you as the solution that will help you save money. THEY ARE LYING TO YOU. Buying into any budgeting app, thinking it will save you money, is like buying MMA gloves and thinking it will make you a fighter. They're selling you the tool because they know it isn't enough and you will fail and keep buying more tools.
The only way to truly get your hands around your money, build a strong foundation, then grow and thrive... Requires the mental unlock, training the skills, and using tools properly.
So where do you begin? How do you do this?
You begin by jumping in! You need to immerse yourself with like-minded people on the same path, keep it real and be open and honest with your struggles, ask tons of questions, and do the work. I am determined to build a community to make this happen, and see people rise up!
